Editorial Resources Growing for Washington Publishers

Expansion of the WSU Murrows Fellows program, nonprofit newswires focused on Washington State policy and legislation, along with our own members contributions to a shared site, are bringing more editorial resources to Washington State’s newspaper publishers.

The Evergreen State Newswire, powered by PluckyWire, continues to grow as a shared resource for Washington newsrooms. Many WNPA member papers are already on the platform, along with InvestigateWest, a nonprofit newsroom producing in-depth investigative and environmental journalism across the Pacific Northwest, and the Washington State Standard, which covers state government, policy, and politics from Olympia.

The editorial landscape is expanding further with WSU's Edward R. Murrow College of Communication and its reporter-in-every-county project, which is working to put trained journalists in underserved communities across the state — a significant boost for papers in counties that have lost local reporting capacity.

Publishers looking for additional state-level content can also tap The Center Square, which has two reporters based in Olympia covering state government, budget, tax, and policy issues. Their coverage is available for use by member papers.

Between PluckyWire, these independent newsrooms, and the Murrow pipeline, Washington publishers have more editorial resources available to them than just their own newsroom alone. Visit the Evergreen State Newswire at pluckyworks.org to learn more or register your newsroom.
