Roger Harnack is an international award-winning photographer. Having grown up in Eastern Washington, his professional career began in Florida in 1988. While majoring in aerospace engineering and photographing rock’n’roll bands and professional sports as a side job, he was hired by a daily newspaper to run a darkroom and photograph space shuttle launches and landings. Since that time, he moved up newspaper ranks to photojournalist/reporter, editor, publisher and group publisher; and now, owner of Free Press Publishing, the largest locally owned media company in Eastern Washington. All along, he has retained his photography roots and is perennially one of the top photographers in the state and WNPA, having been named Photographer of the Year in 2018, 2020, 2021 (runner-up) and 2024, among numerous other awards. You can still find Roger on the sideline, inside the rodeo arena, on the racecourse, under the stars and in other places with a camera in his hand.
