The Chronicle in Centralia has an opening for a hard-charging, fearless reporter who enjoys a good outdoors adventure as much as a contentious city council meeting. The successful applicant will take over the city beat for Centralia and Chehalis while covering a geographic area that includes Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier National Park. You'll join a team of four news reporters (and two sports reporters) in a newsroom of nine. We work hard to cover the news, and we have fun doing it.
The Chronicle publishes three editions each week while keeping and other specialty websites wired with fresh, updated news throughout the day. We pride ourselves on the quality and quantity of the news we produce. This job calls for a hard-working journalist with attention to detail and a desire to tell the stories of our county of 75,000 people and surrounding communities. Recent college graduates are welcome to apply, but we're hoping for a candidate with at least a few years of experience and the clips to prove it.

The Circulation Director will play a vital role on our management team which determines short and long-term strategy and implements the tactics necessary to grow the enterprise. This position reports to the publisher and regional circulation director and is accountable for all acquisitions and retention as well as all distribution efforts. Responsibilities include:

Execute sales and marketing programs for all circulation sales including home delivery, single copy, Newspapers In Education and bulk sales.

• Communicate and implement processes in collaboration with others on staff to achieve circulation sales growth.

• Develop and administer revenue and expense budgets.

• Set and maintain high standards of service for subscribers, single copy buyers, carriers and retailers.


• Three years previous sales management and/or distribution experience.

• Ability to pull and effectively analyze data.

• Experience coaching mentoring and developing an enthusiastic staff.

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or related field preferred.

The editor will work with a small team of reporters and a regional support staff to tell the cultural and political stories of this rapidly transforming city every day in multiple formats. The job requires a hands-on leader with a minimum of three years’ experience as an editor in a highly productive, digital-first newsroom and a deep knowledge of (and love for) Seattle.
