About the Panorama Region of NE WA: With less than a handful of stoplights in 3-county region, we are surrounded by national forest, parks and DNR land. We're also near two amazing ski resorts, one 30 minutes from our office and the second less than an hour away across the Canadian border. There are another three resorts within a two-hour drive. Last year's ski season started in mid-November and ended in April. If city life is your thing, please look elsewhere. It's more than an hour to the outskirts of Spokane and a solid hour-and-a-half to downtown Spokane. But we make up for the lack of big-city amenities with amazing vistas, stars at night, top-notch breweries/distilleries, some of the best road and mountain biking in North America, and some of the cheapest real estate in the NW USA.

This is a competitive media market with another great newspaper 20 minutes down the highway and a few niche monthly magazines covering everything from the environment to quilting bees. Whoever we hire should be willing to handle upbeat news stories while simultaneously filing public records requests for long-form hard news. It's a fun beat for an ambitious journalist wanting to do a little bit of everything.
